The period between 1917 until the 1930’s was a time of great political and social change in Russia, many events such as the fall of capitalism, the civil war and the rise of the communist dictatorship took place. One of the people at the centre of this change was Vladimir Lenin, who in my opinion was one of the most significant people in Russia during this time period. We can see he is significant due to incredible short and long term changes he made to Russia and the wide reaching impact he had, especially when compared to other factors at the time. Some say that other factors such as Leon Trotsky and the weakness of his opponents detracts from his significance, however I believe Lenin’s unique ideas and political skills puts him above all these other factors. I will explore Lenin’s significance by looking at his impact in four categories: political, social, economic and cultural.
